Did you know that it’s completely possible to go on vacation and not gain weight? After all, it's just a change in geography. There are actually three super healthy behaviors built into a vacation - Relaxation (aka. Stress Management), Play (aka. Increased Movement), and Grazing (aka. Creating Stable Blood Sugar Levels). When enjoying a relaxing vacation, you are inadvertently lowering cortisol levels, which reduces appetite and cravings for sweet, fatty, and salty foods. Another thing that sets up a vacation for good health is the fact that a typical vacation is active with increased walking, not to mention, playing more games or outdoor sports like tennis, skiing, swimming, or simply throwing the football with the kids. Then there’s the slower more intentional dining together, which is a big part of vacation. The good news is, you are in complete control of what you eat, whether it’s home cooked, at the resort, or restaurant. This is why April coaches her clients that going on vacation doesn’t have to be a pitfall or a backslide with weight gain. You can come back reset and ready to keep moving forward (and maybe even a little lighter).
